Encourage. Energize. Empower.

There is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women.  – Kofi Annan

In the above quote, Secretary Annan was referring to women in developing nations.  However, it’s just as apt a description of women in technology.
Encourage. Energize. Empower.  Those are pretty tall orders. The YOU is implied. How about we imply instead that it’s WE? As working women with a voice,  WE need to support each other. WE need to encourage each other to try harder, to reach farther and to stand taller. WE need to energize each other when we’re tired, when we stumble and when we need to rest.
Where should you start? How about right here?  Here is a great place to start.
We’ll do it together.

Webinar: TechGirlz TechShops Run a tech workshop for girls!

Thu, Feb 04 2016 18:00 UTC

TechGirlz TechShops

TechGirlz TechShops are three hour workshops that introduce middle school girls to a variety of tech topics. In this session, learn how to sign up, set up & run a TechShops program in your area. TechShopz in a Box™ are free, pre-packaged versions of our TechGirlz TechShopz that make it easy for you to run one in your own community. Open this virtual box and you will find our tried-and-true workshop plans and our PlayBook, with our tips and guidelines to bring one of our TechShopz to your town. Since 2010, we’ve inspired over 2000 girls to embrace technology to shape their future – with your help, we can change the equation to make that number grow. Sarah Johnson, Community Outreach Manager for TechGirlz walks you through set up, choosing your topic, finding locations, resources and answers lots of FAQs to help you get started supporting girls in technology.

Sarah Johnson

Sarah Johnson started her IT career as a receptionist who asked why her company used pen and paper instead of a web application and ended up as the Manager of Technology. She learned web programming on the job with support from community tech user groups, eventually giving back to the same community by teaching with organizations like Girl Develop It and TechGirlz. After volunteering with TechGirlz as a teacher, committee member, and TechShopz Coach, Sarah was hired as the Community Outreach Manager, working to engage the community in and beyond Philadelphia to inspire girls to learn about technology.
